Gunla (Sacred Month of Lord Buddha)

Gunla is a sacred lunar month in Buddhist Calendar. The period includes the fifteen days before full-moon of August or early September and the fifteen days which follow. According to the Vikram era, Gunla Happens to be the month of the year. It is one of the most important events in Newar Buddhism in Nepal.
Thousands of Buddhists, observe fasting and conduct holy rituals, ceremonies and pilgrimage to the holy site of Swayambhu and other sacred places.
The Buddhists offer mute prayers and sing songs in the scared shrines, also go around clockwise the metallic praying wheels filled with mantras ‘Om Mani Padme Hum’.
